I woke up to animal, people and motor noises at around 10 in the morning. The chickens outside the window were crowing and trucks and bulldozers were rumbling by.

Narry's uncle stripping leaves to wrap rice in. The end product is called zongzi: it's rice wrapped in these leaves and it's delicious!

A grave by Narry's uncle's house. They all have a stick on them with white or different colored paper on it. Since they don't have cemeteries out in the country, each family has to bury their own family members.
Shortly after Christie and I got ready, we (Narry's parents, Narry, some other relatives, Kevin, Christie and I) went to the market to buy some fireworks.

On our way back
Narry told us that the bag hanging off the tree is medicine. A couple other tress had the same thing on it.
When we came back from our little field trip, we had lunch. There were three tables for all the family members and each table had about 14 different dishes. There was so much delicious food! I ate until I couldn't eat anymore. Every couple of minutes, the men at the table would raise their glasses and toast Kevin. This happened at every meal. Kevin usually had to drink alcohol (usually some type of really strong wine called baijiu or beer) with his meal and would have to stop eating, put his chopsticks down, and toast back. They sometimes included Christie and I in the toast, but not as much as Kevin.

FOOD!!!
Immediately after we ate, we, including Narry's family, went on a walk through the streets in the mountains. The landscape was so beautiful, but I could see some of the houses had been destroyed by the earthquake. In addition, many houses were being rebuilt.

When we returned from our hike, Narry taught Kevin, Christie and I how to play Mahjong, which we played until it was dinnertime. We ate basically as much as we did for lunch. Later on that night, Kevin, Narry, Christie and I shot off some small fireworks.
It was so nice of Narry's family to invite you guys! It is all unbelievable.

ReplyDeleteOk so 3 things:
ReplyDelete1) the medicine hanging from the tree kinda looked like an IV bag lol
2) the food looked amazingly delicious
3) bring me home a goat...please.
Yeah, it might be an IV bag. I'll do my best with the goat.
